North East
Tasmania’s North East is the island’s quieter corner — rolling farmland, old tin-mining country, patchwork forestry and the long beaches of the Bay of Fires and Bridport coast. Alcohol production here skews distillery and brewery rather than winery: Fannys Bay on the Lulworth coast, Darby Norris and Little Rivers Brewing at Scottsdale, and a scattering of cellar-door stops at Derby, Branxholm and further east. The region suits travellers chasing a slower pace, with most venues open fewer days a week than their Tamar or Hobart counterparts — it’s worth calling ahead. The Blue Tier rainforest, Columba Falls, and the mountain bike trails at Derby are natural pairings for anyone building a long weekend around visits.
