Pipers River

Pipers River sits on the cooler, flatter strip of country between the Tamar Valley and the Bass Strait coast — long considered Tasmania’s premier sparkling address. The maritime climate, deep ferrosol soils and reliable afternoon sea breezes give Chardonnay and Pinot Noir the slow, even ripening that methode traditionnelle demands. Jansz, Pipers Brook, Clover Hill and Delamere built the sub-region’s international reputation through the 1980s and 1990s, and newer boutique estates like Sinapius, Dalrymple and Brook Eden now sit alongside them. The road between Lebrina, Pipers Brook and Bridport is an easy half-day loop from Launceston, and several cellar doors pair their sparkling with platters, leaving visitors little reason to rush back.
