Greater Hobart

Greater Hobart is Tasmania’s craft-drinks hub — the island’s densest cluster of distilleries, breweries and urban cellar doors, mostly concentrated between the CBD, North Hobart and the inner waterfront at Macquarie Point and Salamanca. The modern Tasmanian whisky revival began here in 1992 at Lark; Sullivans Cove, Hellyers Road and Callington Mill all have tasting rooms within walking distance of the city. Hobart Brewing Co, Shambles, Moo Brew’s Hobart venue, T-Bone and Two Metre Tall give the beer side equal weight. Cascade, Australia’s oldest continuously operating brewery, sits in South Hobart against kunanyi/Mount Wellington. The waterfront venues support a compact walking tour and most are open seven days — making Hobart the best base for anyone who wants multiple tastings without hiring a car.
