Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley runs either side of the Tamar River from Launceston north to Bass Strait — Tasmania’s most visited wine country and the home of the original Tasmanian Wine Route. Mild, maritime-influenced summers and cool nights favour Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and sparkling base, with Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc on sandier sites. Cellar doors here range from boutique family estates at Rosevears, Legana and Kayena through to larger producers at Sidmouth and Relbia, threaded together by a forty-minute drive. A growing cluster of distillers and brewers sits inside Launceston itself — Corra Linn, Adams, Launceston Distillery, James Boag’s, Morrison and Du Cane — so the valley now offers a full day of wine, whisky, gin and beer without leaving the region.
